Ruth Lynch

Head of People & Premises

Ruth is the Head of People and Premises at DeVono, overseeing staff culture, wellbeing, HR management, managing the business support team and ensuring the smooth running of the office whilst creating a great environment for staff. Ruth is a Mental Health First Aider and spends a lot of time looking at new ideas to enhance staff welfare.

Can you describe the culture of the company?

A positive company culture is something that is extremely important to everyone here at DeVono. Having a solid and relatable set of company core values really strengthens the backbone to our identity and ensures that staff wellbeing is forever at the forefront of the business, along with working together positively and collaboratively to guarantee the very best for our clients. Everyone has the opportunity to make their mark and grow within the business and hard work never goes unrecognised. Our people value each-other, regardless of role or title, and this makes for a pleasant, friendly and sociable working environment. To put it into a single word, the working culture at DeVono Cresa is fantastic!

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy safeguarding the company culture, through interacting with staff to make sure they are satisfied and measuring general employee engagement. Every week is different at DeVono which means my role as Head of People is never boring! Staying on top of staff wellbeing and happiness is a never ending task but I really enjoy it.

What is your biggest working challenge that you have overcome?

The last year and a half has been very tough on everyone so making it through this has been a massive challenge, especially when it comes to mental pressures and wellbeing. And it has been very challenging to try and maintain our identity as a business throughout the lockdown crisis. But by maintaining good working relationships between teams throughout lockdown and encouraging staff integration throughout, we have come out the other side as strong as we were before.

If you could have a superpower, what would you choose?

Being a natural worrier, seeing into the future would be pretty useful power to have!

Chris Lewis MRICS

Equity Partner & Head of Occupier Advisory

Chris is an Equity Partner at Devono and is responsible for leading the Occupier Advisory Group.

Previously a partner at Deloitte, Chris has 20 years’ experience in the UK and overseas property markets and has always specialised in supporting occupier clients with strategic as well as transactional advice. He works with a wide range of clients from multiple sectors and is passionate about providing the best possible advice.

Chris is also a member of Tech London Advocates and has for some time been focussed on the growth of tech in business.

Why did you choose to join DeVono Cresa? 

I am unashamedly an occupiers man so being part of a firm that shared my values and focus was really important.

What is unique about your team in relation to your peers in the market?

I think our experience, knowledge and total occupier focus is our point of difference.

What has been your most interesting/proudest project to date?

I love complex and challenging projects. The small ones can be as hard (or harder!) than the big – trying to single out any in particular is impossible!

If your friends had to describe you in only three words, what would they choose and why?

Focused, determined & pragmatic. Because I am!


Ben Grave

Director, Dthree

As the Director of Dthree, Ben is responsible for overseeing the team and ensuring the smooth execution of all client projects.

He is passionate about creating fantastic working environments, big or small, and always looks forward to handing over the finished project to every client he works with.

Having spent many years working in the design and build industry both in business development and as a project director – Ben has vast experience of managing projects from start to finish.

How did you come to join Dthree and the DeVono team?

I was a Project Director at Dthree’s sister company, ThirdWay, for two years before being asked to move across and head up the Dthree team – naturally I jumped at the chance!

What is most important to you and your team?

Delivering quality projects for our clients, there is no better feeling than that doing what we do.

How best do you like to work with clients?

Collaboratively – it is great working with clients that challenge us but are also up for being challenged by us.

If you could learn one new skill, what would it be?

I’d love to be able to design a space like our Dthree designers can but it’s best I leave it to them (the experts)!


Robert Leigh

Equity Partner

Robert is an Equity Partner and the founder of DeVono.

Having worked in the property industry for over 17 years and having previously been a partner at a niche West End firm, he created a firm to specialise solely in providing objective, unbiased advice exclusively to corporate occupiers. 

Robert deals with all aspects of office agency and leasing advice, providing front-end strategic expertise to occupiers across the full spectrum of services that DeVono now specialises in.

Why did you decide to start the business?

Throughout my career, I have endeavoured to provide transparent and quality advice to clients. Yet I have seen first-hand how occupiers don’t always receive this from landlord focussed firms. My drive for setting up DeVono was to level the playing field and empower occupiers with unconflicted advice that puts them first.

Where do you see the company heading over the next five years?

We’ve come a long way since we devised the concept of an occupier-only consultancy that in the words of others, ‘disrupted’ the market. We couldn’t have grown without the dedication of our team and the constant evolution of our client offer. The next five years should build on the changing nature of the post-COVID workspace, whilst continuing to provide best-in-class service to our clients.

How would you describe your leadership style?

Leading by example. There isn’t one aspect or task at DeVono that I wouldn’t be prepared or willing to do myself. Leadership is about fostering and enhancing team spirit and the individual strengths of the team towards a collective goal. It is this very ethos that has carried us this far and allowed us to grow into the award-winning consultancy we are today.

What’s your all time favourite memory and why?

There are too many to talk recount, but an overriding memory is being fortunate enough to travel for over a year around South East Asia and Australasia. It was one of the most enriching periods of my life, learning about different countries and their diverse and wide-ranging cultures.

 

Robert is an Equity Director and founder of DeVono.

David Barrington

Head of Disposals, Occupier Advisory & Consultancy

David is Head of Disposals at DeVono Cresa.

He has a background in finance and practiced this is London and Moscow before joining the team here at DeVono.

Away from the office David is a keen rugby player and also enjoys a day out at the racecourse. 

David is a consultant in the Office Agency team at DeVono.
He previously worked in the recruitment industry and joined DeVono to establish a career in commercial property. 
His role is to advise central London occupiers on all aspects of their property strategy.
He is a keen sportsman and particulary loves rugby.

Shaun Dawson

Head of Insights

Shaun leads research and thought leadership at DeVono as Head of Insights.

Previously Head of Real Estate Insights at Deloitte, Shaun is an experienced property analyst having worked within the industry for nearly 15 years. Shaun was responsible for market leading industry publications including the flagship Deloitte “Crane Survey” quarterly report and the London Business Footprint series.

Tell us about your role at DeVono?

As Head of Insights, it is my role to provide clients, colleagues, and peers alike with market leading research, in-depth perspectives, and a unique point of view on the workplace and workforce, to inform the real estate decision-making process. This can take the form of our regular series of reports, presentations, one-on-one discussions, and bespoke client projects.

 How do you see your role and team expanding over the next few years?

The evolution of the workplace has picked up significant pace in recent years leading businesses to make decisions that will impact the workforce and business operations. I believe that the role of Insights will increasingly be harnessed by businesses throughout their real estate strategy process, and not just at the transaction stage, as such DeVono Insights will evolve accordingly.

What would you recommend to someone looking to get into commercial property?

The office is more than a physical space providing a desk for someone to do their work, it is a place for learning, sharing, creating and importantly personal growth. A job in commercial property is not just a role in the real estate industry, it being part of a wider workplace ecosystem that you can help to shape. 

If you could time travel, where would you go and why?

As a child I was fascinated by ancient Greece and Rome and how they built such great structures and civilisations, intrigue that has not waned into adulthood. In a world where we can access info at the touch a button, there are still somethings that remain a mystery. 


Stephanie Cowles

Director, Client Services

As the Director of the Client Services team, Stephanie initiated her career in property by providing corporate occupiers with advice on their real estate needs in Central London, and is now responsible for overseeing sales and sales operations across the business.

Over the last 9 years in which she has worked at DeVono, Stephanie has grown her position to actively support all departments and project initiatives, focusing on operational efficiencies, strategic growth and cross-departmental integrations, whilst also managing a team of consultants and researchers specialising in client relationship development.

Stephanie is a Director in the Client Services team at DeVono Cresa.

With a passion for property, she joined DeVono Cresa to realise her long-term ambition of working within commercial real estate. Her role is ultimately to provide corporate occupiers with advice in connection with their existing and proposed property needs in Central London.

In her spare time Stephanie loves to travel and socialise with friends and also volunteers at several charities promoting activities such as dance and sports for young people.


Ian Rudland

Chairman

Ian brings with him over 30 years’ experience in providing real estate advice to occupiers across the UK and overseas, most recently at Vail Williams as the Chief Executive Officer for over 18 years.

In terms of business growth, Ian has specific experience in transforming businesses into full service advisory firms and has provided a portfolio of services, including: Office Agency, Valuations, Building Surveying, Business Rates, Asset Management and Town-planning across nine locations.


Luke Philpott MRICS

Equity Partner

Luke is an Equity Partner at DeVono. Over the past 15 years he has established a reputation for successfully executing large-scale real estate projects for high-profile corporate occupiers, across Central London, the UK and EMEA.

Today he maintains relationships with a handful of key clients and is heavily focused on driving the strategic growth of the business.

Tell us about your journey at DeVono?

I joined the firm in 2006 at a time when it was three years old and had three other people working in it. Over the past 15 years that I can speak to, we’ve quietly built an award winning firm, full of interesting, thoughtful people that collectively bring a broad range of experience, expertise, creative thinking and intelligence to the business that we are today. That’s gratifying to look back on, and a source of inspiration for what we do next.

What’s your favourite thing about working at our company?

The people and the pace. We have developed a great culture in our business and have always adapated quickly and successfully to the ever-changing business and market climate.  

How do you see the business changing over the coming years?

Someone once told me that experience is what you get right after you needed it. Throughout Covid I’ve thought about this every so often, and we’ll certainly make some moves that directly reflect what we’ve witnessed and learnt from this period. We’ll be better for these changes, for our people, our clients and hopefully our families too.

Describe your perfect day?

Early rise for some exercise, back briefly to see the house waking up and then in to London for an early breakfast meeting. Further meetings throughout the day with colleagues, venture partners and clients, looking at all manner of things in and out of the business in my inherently elusive search for perfection within it.  If my children have any school fixtures in the late afternoon I’ll want to be there for those. Finally home for the family’s ‘carbonara Monday’ and a catch up with everyone’s day.


George BlakemoreBSc (Hons)

Associate Director, Occupier Advisory & Consultancy

George Blakemore is an Associate Director in the Occupier Advisory team of DeVono Cresa.

George graduated from Oxford Brookes University with an Honours degree in Real Estate Management and then spent two years at Knight Frank’s Birmingham office before joining the DeVono Cresa family here.

As one of seven surveyors in our office agency department, George’s role as he develops his training will be in advising the firm’s clients across all aspects of their office sourcing and lease negotiation, including ‘stay or leave’ analysis and dealing with existing lease renewals, lease re-gears and exit strategies.

Away from the office, George is a fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and also enjoys cricket and horse racing.

Sham Khush

Finance Director

Sham joined the team at DeVono to establish the Finance Division and support the financial strategy of the business.

He has over twenty years of experience in accounting and finance, predominantly working for businesses in the SME sector to assist with strategic and financial growth.

What work challenges have you faced over the last 12 months and how did you overcome them?

The major challenge has been the isolation from work colleagues and the only way to overcome this has been regular dialogue over Zoom, Teams and by phone. Lately though the face to face interaction has been very welcome.

What aspects of the business do you value the most?

The people is what I value the most. We work closely together as a team and all employees feel like they are valued members making a genuine contribution.

What key projects have you been working on to improve the business?

The major project has been to ensure we trade through the pandemic while maintaining a strong financial position. As we exit the pandemic the focus will switch to how we maximise revenue and performance through our business strategy

What is your favourite thing to do outside of work?

Outside of work my interest is watching sport and attending live sporting events. Most recently this has involved watching england at Wembley in Euro 2021 and India in the test matches at Lords and the Oval (all extremely welcome after 12 months of not being allowed to attend).


Harry Evans

Project Manager, Dthree

Harry is Project Manager at Dthree and is involved in managing the project once on site, making sure it is delivered on time and to the exceptional standard expected.

Having previously worked with ThirdWay as a site manager and PM, his knowledge and understanding onsite, combined with his innate ability to problem-solve, allows all stages of the project to run smoothly.

At the weekends he enjoys playing golf and football, reading, and a good party. He’s also a keen traveller.


Ben AshbyMRICS

Director, Occupier Advisory & Consultancy

Ben is a Director within the Occupier Advisory & Consultancy team at DeVono Cresa, and has been a RICS qualified Chartered Surveyor since 2009.

He has over 12 years of experience in the central London office market, and has for the last 4 years specialised exclusively in occupier representation. Skills range from advising on relocations and negotiating new lease terms, whilst also concentrating on wider commercial real estate strategy. Having previously worked at Deloitte Real Estate and BNP Paribas Real Estate, and a smaller niche practice before that, Ben has a broad ranging client track record across multiple business sectors.

Outside of the working environment, Ben lives in mid Sussex and enjoys family time with his two young daughters, wife, and Labrador, whilst also keeping fit by running the odd marathon and taking part in long distance cycle races.


Charles Chell MRICS

Associate Director, Occupier Advisory & Consultancy

Charles is an Associate Director in the Occupier Advisory & Consultancy team at DeVono Cresa, and has been a RICS qualified Chartered Surveyor since 2016.

Charles graduated from The Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester with an Honours degree in Real Estate. Having previously worked at Deloitte Real Estate and Gerald Eve in Portfolio Investment and the Office Agency teams, Charles gained a range of experience advising clients across multiple sectors. Skills range from advising on corporate real estate strategy, relocations and negotiating new lease terms.

Outside of work, Charles lives in Oxfordshire and can occasionally be found running alongside the river.

Gemma is a Director at Devono Cresa and responsible for leading the Serviced Office Agency team.

Gemma has over 13 years’ experience in the serviced office industry and previously spent 8 years leading the UK sales team at Avanta Serviced Office Group plc.

Passionate about problem-solving and advising clients on flexible workspace, Gemma has worked with many high-profile clients over the years sourcing office space and providing relocation and growth strategy.

Known for her strong communication, management and interpersonal skills, she builds rapport with people of all cultures and professional fields.

Away from the office Gemma enjoys time with her young family and catching up with friends.


Peter Hargreaves MRICS LLM

Building & Dilapidations Surveyor

Peter is a Chartered Surveyor and holds a Master’s Degree in Property Law (LLM), specialising in dilapidations. 

Peter has historically worked all over the UK and Europe on major property projects and acquisition portfolios. This has included instructions in France, Germany and Switzerland. His current workload consists largely of acquisition surveys on behalf of leasehold and freehold clients who are seeking to occupy new premises, whilst also mitigating dilapidation liabilities for those who are seeking effective exit strategies. Peter’s focus is on the central London market. 

Outside of office hours Peter likes to participate in multisport/ triathlon competitions with the ultimate aim to one day complete an ironman event. He's also fond of a good gentleman's leather briefcase and has an impressive collection of these.

Peter is a Chartered Surveyor and holds a Master’s Degree in Property Law (LLM), specialising in dilapidations.

Richard is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and of the Restaurant Property Advisers Society. 

He specialises in professional tenant work, undertaking rent reviews and lease renewals on behalf of clients all over the UK and is regularly called upon to act as an Expert Witness in Arbitrational proceedings on appointment from the President of the RICS. 

Richard works hard to achieve the best possible results for his clients, drawing on his knowledge of the rent review and lease renewal process and his wealth of experience in his chosen markets.  He acts for a wide range of restaurant and retail operators as well as a number of office tenants from SMEs to large multi-nationals. 

In his spare time, Richard operates a weekend taxi service for his four children, occasionally finding time to either watch, coach or play football, and also has a passion for cooking (with mixed results!).

Manpreet is a database researcher in the Client Services Team.

She is responsible for supporting the New Business Team through database management and industry research.

When not in the office she is usually trying out new foods or catching up on sleep.


Charlie Kent

Designer, Dthree

Charlie is a Designer at Dthree and her role allows her to be fully involved in all stages of the design process. This begins with building a good relationship with the client and understanding their requirements.

She uses both 2D and 3D drawings, as well as considered finishes and products to express creative designs.

She enjoys cooking, going to live music events and Yoga.


Hannah May

Technical Designer, Dthree

Hannah is Dthree's Technical Designer and utilises her creative background and skills with technical planning, to work harmoniously together to develop the concept into a scheme, often using different and unusual sources of inspiration.

With work experience in both residential and commercial interior design studios, Hannah has gained valuable and unique skills transferable to design and build.

She has Scottish roots and is still quite new to London so loves exploring new places at the weekend. She loves visiting Art and Design Exhibitions and is passionate about food, often visiting food markets like Borough Market.  

 


Paul Anglo

Associate Director, Flexible Leasing & Consulting

Paul is a member of the Serviced Office Agency team at DeVono Cresa. His role involves sourcing and securing bespoke office solutions to suit the needs of our diverse client base in this sector.

As an experienced professional within the serviced office market, his background to date has involved advising businesses from start-ups to corporate international firms on their property strategy within this flexible office sector. This has resulted in successfully advising and relocating hundreds of businesses across the UK.

In his spare time Paul enjoys socialising with friends, finding good new places to eat and drink and binge gyming – 2 days on, 12 days off. He is also a passionate Spurs fan.

Sophie is our Marketing Assistant.

Sophie loves trying out new things and travelling to new places. Out of the office you will typically find her at the gym, socialising or shopping.


Ioana Podina

Database Manager, Client Services

Ioana joined DeVono Cresa to support the Client Services team through quality research and by managing their daily call scheduling.

She is a former teacher and librarian, with a major in History and American studies, cultivating a strong passion for research and communications. Prior to DeVono Cresa, she spent 2 years working as a librarian and over 6 years as an educational project manager/teacher for a Dutch – Romanian foundation. Originally from Romania, she joined the firm to experience the energy of an international company.

Away from her work, Ioana enjoys reading (a lot of reading), writing, and snowboarding.

Matt Williams MRICS

Building & Dilapidations Surveyor

Matt has over 12 years' experience as a Chartered Surveyor and specialises in Due Diligence acquisition surveys, Dilapidations and Project Services for a number of high profile blue chip corporates.

Matt is the former Chairman of RICS matrics Wales and maintains a keen involvement with the RICS, regularly providing talks to accredited universities on behalf of the RICS and acting as a judge for the RICS Building Awards.

Matt is a passionate, but extremely limited sportsman and still takes to the rugby field most weekends, despite the recent birth of his first child.

Andy James

Associate Director, Flexible Leasing & Consulting

Andy is an Associate Director within our Serviced Office team.

He has been working within the Serviced Office sector for over 10 years and has sourced and secured offices for clients such as BP, Toshiba, Twitter, BMC Software, BAM Nuttall and The Weather Channel.

Andy has built great relationships over the years, and with access to an extensive network he specialises in sourcing the perfect office solution and assisting with negotiating the very best deal.

Andy loves spending quality time with his young family, is a staunch Crystal Palace fan and enjoys a good pub walk on a Sunday afternoon.


Tom Aird

Project Director, Dthree

Tom’s role as Project Director is to ensure the process of designing and building a new office space is as smooth and stress free as can be for our clients.

He is extremely client focused and works tirelessly with the team to ensure all areas are looked after by overseeing the design, costing and delivery.

Having worked in the interior design industry for many years as a designer for residential, retail and commercial projects — Tom brings a detailed eye to projects and the client journey from the first meet.

In his spare time Tom is a competitive road cyclist, triathlete and keen rugby fan.

Building Surveyor

The individual within this role is responsible for carrying out the full range of professional building surveying duties on commercial property to clients. Focus areas that will be expected from a Building Surveyor include: Receiving client instructions and liaising with clients throughout, Carrying out building surveys, giving summary advice and producing full written reports, Preparing, negotiating and agreeing schedules of condition and dilapidations, Contract administration, Carrying out feasibility studies and reinstatement cost assessments, Preparing and agreeing Party Wall awards, Management of fees, Client Cultivation and more. Occupier Advisory Group

The role involves senior participation within DeVono's Occupier Advisory Group. The role is to advise clients on landlord and tenant matters, predominantly in the central London office market. The focus will be concentrated on rent reviews and statutory renewals for occupiers only. The successful candidate will be MRICS qualified with a minimum of 8 years PQE, with at least 5 of those years’ working within lease advisory in the London offices market, specifically on L&T matters.
